3D Printing Firm Sculpteo Joins Forces with My Human Kit for Production of Prosthetic Devices

In an innovative move to address unmet needs in the traditional prosthetics market, French association My Human Kit has partnered with 3D printing company Sculpteo. This collaboration aims to create personalized, affordable, and highly functional prosthetics and assistive devices, particularly the Bionicohand.

The Bionicohand, an open-source bionic hand conceptualized by My Human Kit's co-founder, Nicolas Huchet, a forearm amputee, has already made a significant impact. Young amputee Baptiste benefited from the Bionicohand after discovering it at the Cyblathon, a disability and robotics competition. His prosthesis, custom-designed through a collaboration between prosthetists, designers, researchers, and Sculpteo, allows him to change hands without having to disconnect the wires, offering a level of convenience previously unavailable.

Nicolas Huchet emphasizes that the collaboration with Sculpteo gives My Human Kit access to certified, high-performance industrial-grade 3D printing materials. Sculpteo supports My Human Kit in the selection of technologies, design optimization, part sealing, and ensuring the durability of printed solutions.

Additive manufacturing enables the creation of body parts tailored to individual body shapes, usage, and aesthetic preferences. This customization is crucial for many amputees who face limitations in accessing advanced prosthetics due to cost, lack of personalized solutions, or lack of reimbursement.

My Human Kit plans to establish the first open-source library of 3D hands through its 'Hand Donation' project. This library can be reproduced and adapted anywhere in the world, providing concrete alternatives for those where industrial solutions are insufficient. The Bionicohand, fully documented online, is a testament to this initiative's potential.

The collaboration between My Human Kit and Sculpteo offers both technical and humane solutions for individuals who may not have access to industrial solutions for their prosthetic needs. By pushing the boundaries of manufacturing and fostering open-source collaboration, they are transforming the prosthetics industry, one hand at a time.

With more than 2 million people in Europe living with limb amputation, this collaboration could not come at a more critical time. My Human Kit and Sculpteo are paving the way for a more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable future in prosthetics. For updated information on their collaborations or partnerships, it is advisable to check their official communications or recent news releases directly from their platforms or reputable media outlets.
