A Family-Friendly Movie: The Healer - Focusing on the Journey of Healing

In the world of cinema, there are films that captivate audiences with their stories and themes, and then there are those that go beyond entertainment to make a real-world impact. The latest film to join this category is "The Healer," directed by Paco Arango.

This heart-warming drama-comedy, described by Helen Kuun, MD of Indigenous Film Distribution, as cheerful and positive, is making waves internationally. Already a major hit in Spain, Mexico, Central America, and Colombia, "The Healer" is a film that promotes healing, hope, and the power of human connection.

At its core, "The Healer" tells a story in the tradition of Christian dramas like 'God's Not Dead' and 'Facing the Giants,' both of which were hits at the box office. However, what sets "The Healer" apart is its charitable mission. The film is the first ever made with the intention of helping children with cancer all over the world.

Paco Arango, the screenwriter, director, and producer of "The Healer," is known for his philanthropic efforts. He has been a member of Serious Fun's board for more than nine years, aiming to raise funds and awareness for children with cancer all over the world with this movie. In fact, Arango is donating 100% of the film's revenue to local charities that help children in need.

The film is dedicated to Paul Newman, the legendary actor and philanthropist, who started a free camp for kids with cancer three decades ago. In South Africa, the proceeds from "The Healer" will be donated to the Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC), the only organisation in the country that provides comprehensive nationwide support for children with cancer and their families.

The story revolves around Alec, played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen, a man whose life in England is in disarray. With an electrical repair store going out of business, debts, infidelity, and excessive drinking, Alec's life seems to be falling apart. However, when he moves to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, his services as an electrical repairman mysteriously start curing people, earning him the title of a healer in the town.

Alec's life in Nova Scotia takes an unexpected turn when a man named Raymond, played by Jonathan Pryce, offers to pay off his debts in exchange for a year in Nova Scotia. Cecilia, the local veterinarian, helps Alec find work in Lunenburg, setting the stage for a series of events that will change his life forever.

"The Healer" is more than just a film; it's a testament to the power of human connection and the healing power of kindness. It's a film that not only entertains but also makes a difference, and that's why it's the perfect movie for the season of giving.

As Paco Arango continues to use his platform to support children with cancer, "The Healer" serves as a powerful reminder that stories can indeed change lives. Today, there are 30 'Serious Fun' camps and programs serving the needs of children and families around the world, thanks in part to the efforts of Paco Arango and his team.

In a world where we often forget the power of a good story, "The Healer" is a breath of fresh air. It's a film that reminds us of the importance of empathy, kindness, and the power of giving back.
