Airport functions halted for 3 hours in Tallinn due to disruption
Tallinn Airport in Estonia experienced a temporary disruption in its operations overnight, lasting for three hours between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. The halt in operations was due to a shortage of air traffic controllers on shift.
Lotte-Trijn Narusk, a spokeswoman for the harbor, announced the temporary suspension of services at Tallinn Airport. The shortage of air traffic controllers was planned, with the aim of ensuring that the controller would be well-rested and ready for the morning traffic. This measure was taken to prevent a dangerous situation where a tired controller would be alone on duty overnight.
During the suspension, no planes took off or landed. However, no flights were canceled as a result, although one arriving flight was delayed by about an hour. Emergency flights could have been accommodated if needed during the closure.
Despite the disruption, Tallinn Airport's operations were resumed as scheduled following the planned break. The airport apologised for any inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that all necessary measures were taken to ensure the safety and well-being of its staff and passengers.
