Animal shelter in shock: Canine "drained entirely"
The small, emaciated dog, found unleashed near the church in Tiefenstockheim on August 1st, 2025, is currently under the care of the Kitzingen Animal Shelter. The shelter is currently in a subdued mood as they work tirelessly to help the dog recover.
The dog, an adult but only weighing six kilograms, was suffering from a severe flea infestation that caused her fur to fall out. The fleas had literally sucked the dog dry, leaving her completely emaciated, dehydrated, and anemic. Her claws were so long that she wouldn't have been able to walk even if she was otherwise healthy.
The dog's current condition, however, is improving. She has gained some weight and is receiving the necessary medical attention at the shelter. The Kitzingen Animal Shelter is caring for her, spaying, chipping, and vaccinating her as part of her recovery process.
The shelter's director is appealing to the public to be more attentive and report any irregularities to the police and animal protection. If the dog's owner is found, the authorities will handle the next steps. If not, the shelter plans to find a new, loving home for her.
In a separate incident, a senior dog named Zipfel from the Coburg shelter was found in a ditch. A mixed-breed dog was also recently taken into the Kitzingen Animal Shelter.

The Kitzingen Animal Shelter, after providing the emaciated dog with essential medical care, is now focusing on her health-and-wellness, introducing a diet that promotes her recovery and fitness-and-exercise to help strengthen her limbs. Simultaneously, the shelter is also paying attention to her skin-care, using gentle shampoos to soothe her sensitive skin due to the previous flea infestation.
