Biden expresses positivity, sharing he's 'feeling well' following disclosure of cancer diagnosis

Former President Joe Biden addressed his aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis during a Memorial Day gathering in Wilmington, Delaware on Friday, assuring audiences that he is "feeling good" as he undergoes treatment.

Speaking at Veterans Memorial Park, Biden addressed the audience with gravitas, commemorating the sacrifices of fallen service members while paying tribute to his late son Beau, who died of brain cancer at the age of 46. The event, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of Beau's death, took place amid renewed scrutiny about Biden's mental and physical health, following the publication of a book questioning his fitness for office.

Biden clarified that his treatment consists of taking a pill, and expressed a positive outlook on his prognosis. "The expectation is we're gonna be able to beat this," he said. When asked to comment on the recent discussions around his health, Biden quipped, "You can see I'm mentally competent and I can walk and I can beat the hell out of both of them," referring to his political opponents.

In response to those within his party who have questioned whether he should have run for reelection, Biden responded, "Why didn't they run against me then? Because I'd have beaten them." Biden dropped his reelection bid in 2016 following a contentious debate against Donald Trump.

Though Biden acknowledged that the loss of his son on Memorial Day is a difficult time, he found solace in the presence of his fellow mourners. "Being with all of you, quite frankly, makes things a little bit easier," he said. "So, thank you for allowing me to grieve with you."

Significant advancements in prostate cancer treatment, particularly for metastatic cases, have improved outcomes for many patients, according to recent medical research. Biden's treatment plan includes emerging therapies such as hormone treatments and more effective pills, enabling patients to maintain a relatively normal life while undergoing treatment.

Recent reports indicate that First Lady Jill Biden, too, has been the subject of controversy amid concerns about her husband's health. However, Biden declined to comment on this matter during Friday's press conference.
