Fresh take on Florida tragedy: Mother accused of exorcising "demons" from son, leading to his death

Child perishes in Florida due to alleged attempted exorcism, according to local sheriff's statements.

In a heart-wrenching incident, Rhonda Paulynice, a 31-year-old woman, has been charged with the death of her 6-year-old son, Ra'myl Pierre. According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff, Paulynice believed she was following a divine command to exorcise "demons" from the child's body.

On a distressing Friday morning, Ra'myl's lifeless body was discovered in his bedroom in Fort Pierce, Florida. School resource deputies had requested a welfare check shortly before 10 a.m., leading to the grisly discovery. Paulynice was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, failure to report a death, and altering a body.

At a press conference, Sheriff Richard R. Del Toro Jr. explained that Paulynice claimed divine instruction to perform an exorcism on her son. Sadly, the boy's life was lost during this desperate attempt. The sheriff emphasized her belief that the child's passing meant he had been freed from the perceived demons.

When police arrived at the residence, Paulynice greeted the officer in the driveway and escorted them into the home, where the lifeless boy was found in his bedroom. Autopsy reports are pending to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Despite previous visits to the home regarding the mother's health, this was the first call involving the mother and her son.

Investigators have learned that the last conversation between Paulynice and her son took place on May 18th, the day they believe the child was killed. Paulynice seems to have shown a range of emotions during the investigation, displaying laughing fits alongside tears. As of Friday evening, court records did not indicate the mother had legal representation.

Tragically, Paulynice and the boy were the only residents in the home. It remains unclear if there were any prior domestic issues involving the child.

In light of this tragedy, officials encourage parents to seek appropriate help for any concerns they may have about their children's health and wellbeing.
