Collaborative Effort: Boston Children's Hospital and Nicholas Zoe Foundation Unite to Reshape Pediatric Cancer Care

Collaboration Between Nicholas Zoe Foundation and Boston Children's Hospital to Advance Pediatric Cancer Research

The Nicholas Zoe Foundation and Boston Children's Hospital have joined forces to advance early diagnosis and innovative pediatric cancer research, with a particular focus on Ewing Sarcoma. This partnership supports the development of a non-invasive early diagnostic method using liquid biopsy technology, aiming to accelerate diagnosis and improve treatment for children with cancer.

The collaboration is a vital step in pediatric oncology, combining cutting-edge technology, international partnership, and community support to tackle childhood cancer more effectively. The Nicholas Zoe Foundation, established in 2023 by Alexia Potamitou, provides financial support to pioneering research programs at Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the world's leading pediatric research centers in the US.

A major initiative in this collaboration is the development of liquid biopsy technology for the early detection of Ewing Sarcoma. This could significantly improve diagnosis timelines and treatment outcomes by detecting cancer-related biomarkers from blood samples without invasive procedures. During a special event titled "A Golden Effort – From Cyprus to Boston," leading scientists from Boston Children's Hospital will present the progress of this research project.

The event, inspired by "Gold September," the international awareness month for childhood cancer, is planned for September 16, 2025, in Nicosia, Cyprus, under the auspices of the President of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides. The event will feature scientific presentations by Boston Children’s Hospital researchers and a charity art auction of works by acclaimed Cypriot artists, with all proceeds going toward supporting the Nicholas Zoe Foundation's mission.

The Nicholas Zoe Foundation, which has a presence in both Cyprus and the United States, was established in memory of Alexia Potamitou's son, Nikola Artemiou, who passed away at the age of nine after battling Ewing Sarcoma. The Foundation supports families facing childhood cancer and raises awareness through educational campaigns, international collaborations, and philanthropic initiatives.

This joint mission aims to strengthen pediatric research, accelerate diagnosis, and offer more effective treatments for children battling cancer. The event is a deeply human and scientific initiative, aiming to bring knowledge, treatment, and a new outlook on life to children around the world.
