Due to her lung rehabilitation, Crown Princess Mette-Marit is temporarily stepping away.
Princess Cruises Mette-Marit to Take a Month-Long Break for Lung Rehabilitation
The Norwegian Royal House has announced a pause in the official duties of Princess Mette-Marit, with the exception of a dinner for the representatives of the Storting at the Royal Palace on October 23.
The decision to take a break for lung rehabilitation was made due to Princess Mette-Marit's health condition. The Princess will begin a one-month lung rehabilitation program in Norway at the beginning of October.
Princess Mette-Marit has been living with chronic lung fibrosis for several years. This disease, also known as 'scarring of the lungs', restricts the lungs' ability to absorb oxygen, leading to common symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, and fatigue.
The Princess has had to cancel some of her engagements due to her health condition. Recently, she had to cancel her appearance at the Leipzig Book Fair and a planned trip to the USA.
Mette-Marit publicly revealed her diagnosis of chronic lung fibrosis in 2018. She is the wife of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
The lung rehabilitation for Princess Mette-Marit is expected to be conducted in Norway. The purpose of this therapy is to improve her ability to manage daily life with the illness. It includes physical therapy, medical training, nutrition advice, and psychological support.
The Princess is expected to resume her official duties in November. The pause in her official duties is due to her delicate health condition and is expected to last for a month, with a few exceptions.
This break comes as a precaution to ensure the Princess's health and wellbeing. The Norwegian Royal House has expressed their support and understanding of the situation, and they wish Princess Mette-Marit a speedy recovery and successful rehabilitation.
