"Duisburg Protest: Advocacy for 'Safe Abortion Day'"
On September 27th, from 12 to 3 PM, four state-recognized pregnancy conflict counseling centers in Duisburg will join forces to raise awareness and provide information during the 'Safe Abortion Day' event. The event takes place in the pedestrian zone on Königsstraße (opposite the Forum) in Duisburg, Germany.
The participating centers include the Counseling and Therapy Center of the Health Department of our authority, the Evangelical Counseling Center Duisburg/Moers, Pro Familia Duisburg, and Frauenwürde Duisburg e.V./'Haus im Hof'. These centers offer free and confidential counseling to all, including women, men, and non-binary individuals.
The counseling covers a range of topics, including contraception, sexuality, pregnancy, and couple problems. The event aims to provide valuable insights into the challenges women face in Germany when deciding on a pregnancy termination. The counselors will also explain the counseling services available and the conditions under which pregnancy terminations are performed in countries where it is illegal.
Furthermore, the event will shed light on the global issue of unsafe abortions. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 39,000 women die each year worldwide due to medically unsafe pregnancy terminations because they are illegal in many countries. The aim is to raise awareness about this critical issue and advocate for safer and more accessible abortion services.
In addition to the informative sessions, there will be a 'make your own' button activity at the information booth. This interactive activity is designed to engage participants and encourage open discussions about the importance of accessible and safe abortion services.
The counselors are looking forward to a lively exchange with many citizens. For those who cannot attend the event, detailed information on the challenges women face in Germany when deciding on a pregnancy termination, as well as information on possible legal and financial support for raising children, whether as a single parent or in a partnership, can be found on the online directory at www.familienplanung.de/beratung/beratungsstelle-finden/.
Join us on September 27th in Duisburg to learn more about safe abortion practices and support the cause of accessible and safe abortion services for all women.
