Empowering Girls Equals Protecting Girls: A Stronger Perspective

Every morning at 7:07 AM, you get a dose of local news delivered right to your inbox. Today we're focusing on empowerment and the action week "Against Violence Against Women" in Bergisch Gladbach. It's not just about speaking up, it's about lifting each other up.

A Week of Empowerment

In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, girls and young women are being empowered. With events like Power-Parties and action days, these young minds are Findings their strength and courage. We had a chat with one of the organizers to understand what it's all about.

Empowerment in Action

The day didn't go exactly as planned at Café Leichtsinn due to sudden sicknesses among the staff. But that didn't stop the "Girls Action Day". Originally, the day was filled with workshops, singing, and crafts, but our fearless organizers, Regina Schumacher and Judith Klaßen, had other plans up their sleeves.

With cards filled with simple yet powerful messages about sexual health and affirmation cards like "I am worthy" and "I deserve good things", the duo transformed the day into an empowering session. They even managed to slip in a guided meditation focusing on femininity.

Strengthening Girls and Women

"Girls Action Days" and "Girls Power Parties" are a crucial part of this year's action week against violence against women. These events aim to empower girls and young women through self-defense courses, informative sessions, films that challenge societal norms, and much more. The events are taking place at various youth centers around Bergisch Gladbach.

Creating a Safe Space

It's essential to create a safe space for girls and young women to discover their strengths and stand up for themselves.: More than half of the regular visitors at Café Leichtsinn have disabilities, which makes it even harder for them to see their own worth. But that's precisely what they're trying to address through these events.

The offers at these youth centers are tailored to the younger generation, with music, dance, information, support services, creative activities, and workshops.

Finding Bravery

Meanwhile, two young participants arrived at Café Leichtsinn. One of them, Patricia, is almost a regular there and was particularly excited about the singing and workshop. She even got a glitter tattoo, demonstrating her courage.
