In the heart of India, where smallholder farmers often face significant post-harvest management challenges, a new solution is taking root. GramHeet, co-founded by Shweta Thakare, is revolutionising the agricultural landscape, offering post-harvest services and transforming the lives of thousands of farmers.

Shweta Thakare, who grew up in a farming family, witnessed firsthand the struggles of smallholder farmers. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Amravati University and a Master's in Development Studies from IIT Hyderabad, Shweta set out to make a difference.

GramHeet's initiatives aim to help farmers maximise their post-harvest gains and achieve financial stability. By offering services such as storage, credit, and market linkage, the integrated post-harvest service provider operates directly at the village level through digital platforms.

One of GramHeet's most impactful projects is the GramHeet mandi app, a digital marketplace tailored for smallholder farmers. This app addresses key challenges faced by smallholders, including limited market access, inadequate storage infrastructure, and poor transportation, by connecting farmers directly with buyers and markets.

The app offers real-time market price information, enhancing transparency and trust in the supply chain, and facilitates better post-harvest management practices by linking farmers with advisory services and logistics solutions. By minimising reliance on intermediaries and delays that cause spoilage, the app empowers farmers to make informed decisions and reduce post-harvest losses.

Through the app, Shweta Thakare is not just transforming agriculture—she's creating a future where farmers thrive. Since its launch, GramHeet has reached 35,000 farmers, including 5,000 women farmers, across Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

Shweta's journey proves that passion, technology, and community-driven initiatives can turn farming from a struggle for survival into a path of prosperity. Her work has been recognised on a global scale, with features in Forbes Asia, Forbes India, and prestigious fellowships such as Upaya & MIT-DLabs Fellow (2020), Lead Tribe Fellow (2020), Westerwelle Foundation Fellow (2021), Action for India Fellow (2021), and Pusa Krishi Fellow (2021).

As GramHeet grows, Shweta remains focused on scaling solutions, strengthening rural economies, and reshaping the agricultural landscape. GramHeet is more than a service; it's a movement toward farmer empowerment, financial independence, and knowledge-sharing.

With the GramHeet mandi app, Shweta Thakare is leading the charge to tackle fundamental post-harvest challenges and empower smallholders to enhance their produce value, reduce losses, and improve livelihoods within an ecosystem where traditional post-harvest infrastructure remains deficient.
