Get Your Boosters Now: German Health Authorities Urge COVID-19 & Flu Vaccinations
Autumn has arrived, and with it, the annual call for vaccinations. The German health authorities urge those over 60 and chronically ill to get their COVID-19 booster shots and flu jabs. Both vaccines can be administered simultaneously and are available at doctors' offices and pharmacies.
Dr. med. Carsten König, a renowned physician, advises getting vaccinated in October or November to ensure maximum protection during the winter months. Pregnant women and those with frequent contact with others should also consider getting vaccinated to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Vaccinations can be administered by various specialists, including general practitioners, pediatricians, gynecologists, and ENT specialists. It takes about two weeks for the body to produce enough antibodies after vaccination, providing adequate time for protection before the winter season.
The German Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends a single RSV vaccination for all persons aged 75 and older as a standard vaccination. It is also advised for persons aged 60 to 74 with severe pre-existing conditions or living in care facilities as an indication vaccination. Checking one's vaccination record for due dates of other vaccinations, such as the RSV vaccination, is recommended.
A high vaccination rate, along with adherence to basic hygiene measures, can help prevent infections and protect vulnerable populations. Corona vaccination collection dates are still necessary, and individuals are encouraged to get vaccinated to ensure a safe and healthy winter season.
