Hospital Wards Faced with Legal Actions Over Alleged Negligence in Case of a Greek Heiress, Age 28, Who Died from an Insect Bite, Having Previously Been Denied Medical Attention
In a tragic turn of events, Marissa Laimou, a 28-year-old member of the renowned Greek shipping family with a history dating back to the early 20th century, passed away under circumstances that have raised questions and sparked a legal battle.
Laimou, who was involved in a production of Romeo and Juliet in London, fell ill on September 9 after returning from a summer holiday. She displayed several symptoms, including dizziness, itching, a fever, and signs of an infection.
She was first taken to a private hospital in Harley Street, where an ambulance was called. However, upon arrival, she was reportedly examined by nurses, not doctors, according to her family and friends. Subsequently, she was sent to an NHS hospital, but was never examined by a doctor and was discharged a few hours later.
A doctor visited her home and prescribed her paracetamol, but her condition didn't improve. On September 11, her housekeeper found her deceased in her bed.
Bessy, Laimou's mother, believes the toxic shock caused by an insect bite led to her daughter's death, but the type of insect remains unknown. Marissa was given antibiotics and a diagnosis of an insect bite before being discharged from the hospital.
The family claims that the hospitals ultimately turned Marissa away, stating "it would have been nothing to keep her one night. They could have monitored her." This assertion has led to the family taking legal action against two London hospitals.
Bessy stated that all of England is mourning, including Laimou's doctors, over her death. Yet, there is no publicly available information about which doctor or institution last treated Marissa Laimou before her death in London on September 11.
An autopsy has not been carried out yet, according to Laimou's family. This incident is not directly related to the articles titled "Hundreds of modern slavery victims work in UK's bars and hotels" or "Two charged with murder after man found with fatal injuries in Lisburn".
As the investigation continues, the tragic death of Marissa Laimou serves as a sombre reminder of the importance of timely and appropriate medical care.
