Francis Ford Coppola Undergoes Planned Heart Procedure in Rome
Legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, aged 86, is currently receiving medical care at the Tor Vergata Hospital in Rome, Italy. The acclaimed filmmaker, known for his work on classics such as "The Godfather" trilogy and "Apocalypse Now," is under observation following a planned heart operation.
According to multiple media outlets, including "Corriere della Sera," "La Repubblica," and the British "Independent," Coppola's hospitalization is due to a scheduled update to a 30-year-old atrial fibrillation (afib) treatment he originally received. Contrary to earlier reports, the heart operation was not interrupted by a new complication related to a heart rhythm disorder.
Coppola's representative confirmed that the procedure was previously scheduled and that the director arrived at the hospital by car, emphasizing there was no emergency. Coppola himself posted on Instagram, confirming he is well and resting after the update procedure performed by Dr. Andrea Natale, his longtime doctor and the inventor of the original afib procedure.
An anonymous source close to Coppola told the U.S. magazine "People" that everything is fine, and the director's representatives have not yet commented on his condition. Coppola is an Italian-American, and it is not surprising that he is in Italy for the operation, as "Corriere della Sera" reported.
It is worth noting that Coppola often visits Italy, and at the time of his hospitalization, he was in the country to scout locations for a new film that is set to be shot in the fall.
