Individual, Trabert, reportedly unable to work following a stroke event.
Gerhard Trabert Steps Down from Bundestag Due to Health Complications
Professor Dr. Gerhard Trabert, a prominent figure in German politics, has resigned from his Bundestag mandate due to serious health complications, specifically multiple strokes, which have made a return to active politics impossible. His resignation occurred before August 19, 2025, and his successor in the Bundestag is Lin Lindner, a young, non-binary politician from The Left party.
Trabert's health issues have also affected his ability to return to his previous level of work with the association "Poverty and Health in Germany" (a+G), which he founded in 1997. After several months of rehabilitation, he still has significant limitations. Despite these challenges, the association aims to continue Trabert's values and practical support in his spirit.
Trabert's work with a+G has been focused on supporting people in need, including the homeless and socially disadvantaged. In a twist of fate, the very people he dedicated his life to helping are now left without his direct guidance. However, the association has recently undergone restructuring, and it plans to carry on Trabert's legacy.
In a move to honour Trabert's dedication, another association he founded, Flüsterpost e.V., will continue to provide support services for children with parents who have cancer. This organization, established 22 years ago, is a testament to Trabert's commitment to helping those in need.
Trabert's return to a life dedicated to serving people is unfortunately not possible. Despite this, his impact on the lives of many remains significant. His departure from the Bundestag has left a vacancy, now filled by Lin Lindner. Trabert, however, can now return home to focus on his recovery.
In a political landscape that often seems distant from the lives of ordinary people, Trabert's work stands as a reminder of the power of empathy and dedication. His legacy continues to inspire, even as he takes a step back from the front lines. The future of a+G and Flüsterpost e.V. remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Trabert's spirit of service will live on.
