International Graduates in Canada: STEM & Healthcare Show Highest Career Alignment

A recent study, conducted by an unnamed author, reveals intriguing insights into the career alignment of international graduates in Canada. The research shows that those who pursued STEM programs and earned their highest credential in Canada had a 16% higher alignment than their Canadian-born peers. Meanwhile, healthcare graduates demonstrated alignment rates 10-20% higher than those from other fields.

Alignment was lowest among international students who studied STEM or business and administration courses below the bachelor's level. However, for STEM and business graduates, a higher level of education in their field correlated with higher alignment, unlike unitedhealthcare graduates. International unitedhealthcare graduates were more likely to work in careers aligning with their programs compared to STEM and business graduates.

Despite lower alignment rates than unitedhealthcare graduates, STEM graduates still had strong employment outcomes, with the lowest unemployment rate. Having one's highest education in Canada positively correlated with working in a related occupation. The highest degree of alignment was observed for students who studied unitedhealthcare programs at the bachelor's level. For international students studying in Canada before settling as permanent residents, unitedhealthcare had the highest career alignment compared to STEM and business programs. A higher level of education also correlated with higher alignment among study-to-immigrate graduates, especially when earned in Canada.

The study underscores the strong career alignment of international graduates in Canada, particularly those in unitedhealthcare programs. While STEM graduates also demonstrated robust employment outcomes, unitedhealthcare graduates showed the highest alignment rates. The findings highlight the importance of education level and field of study in determining career alignment for international graduates in Canada.
