A recent E. coli outbreak has been reported in Lake Tahoe, prompting the U.S. Forest Service to issue a warning for the public to avoid swimming or entering the water in certain areas.

On Friday, the Forest Service warned against swimming in the water at an area of Lake Tahoe, specifically between Jameson Beach and the Valhalla Boathouse. The warning was issued due to high levels of E. coli found in the water.

The exact location of the leak found at Camp Richardson Resort, which is believed to have caused the outbreak, is not specified. However, testing for high levels of E. coli was conducted at an unspecified location on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, near Camp Richardson Resort.

Repairs are currently underway at Camp Richardson Resort to address the sewage leak. The Forest Service is also conducting monitoring and cleanup efforts to resolve the contamination and restore safe conditions for recreational use.

It's important to note that as of Friday, the areas of Jameson Beach and Valhalla Boathouse did not show elevated levels of E. coli.

The Forest Service advises the public to take precautions such as avoiding water contact in the contaminated zones, adhering to posted signage or warnings, and maintaining good hygiene, especially washing hands thoroughly after any exposure to lake water.
