LIT's Dr. Schelker Wins $75K G-Rex Grant to Boost TSCM Production
Dr. Dr. Roland Schelker, head of the 'T-Cell Fitness' scholar group at the Leibniz-Institut für Immuntherapie (LIT), has received a G-Rex grant worth $75,000 from ScaleReady LLC. The grant will support research focused on the generation of T-memory stem cells (TSCM) at LIT.
TSCM are a specific type of T-cell that play a crucial role in the human immune system by remembering past infections or diseases and quickly transforming into active defense cells when needed. The scientists plan to use a G-Rex bioreactor to produce large quantities of TSCM for research or medical purposes. The project, led by Dr. Schelker, will span 18 months and aims to optimize and simplify existing TSCM manufacturing processes. The research group at LIT, which includes research technician Pedro Noronha who was heavily involved in securing the grant, will generate preclinical data to achieve this goal. Several preclinical research projects at LIT are exploring the potential of TSCM in the treatment of various diseases due to their proven superior anti-tumor efficacy in preclinical models and their ability to survive long-term in vivo.
The G-Rex grant will enable Dr. Schelker's group at LIT to advance their research on TSCM, with the potential to improve manufacturing processes and enhance their therapeutic applications. The project is expected to yield valuable preclinical data within the next 18 months.
