Major Recall of Ready-to-Eat Pasta Salads Due to Listeria Outbreak
A widespread recall of ready-to-eat food salads and bowls has been issued due to a listeria outbreak. The recall, involving products from Kraft Heinz, TreeHouse Foods, and Nate's Fine Foods, has affected major retailers like Kroger, Trader Joe's, Albertsons, Walmart, and others. So far, 19 people have been hospitalized across 15 states, with four deaths and one fetal loss reported.
The recalled products, including Deli Bowtie and Penne pasta Salads, Shrimp Scampi with Linguine, and others, were sold under various brands and had use-by dates extending into 2027. The outbreak has been linked to listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. The last known illness onset was on September 11, 2022. Consumers are urged to check their homes for these whole foods products and return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
The recall is ongoing, and the investigation is still underway. Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Kraft Heinz at 1-800-432-3105 or TreeHouse Foods at 1-855-973-6635. The CDC advises that listeria can be killed by cooking food to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). However, ready-to-eat food like these pasta salads should not be consumed unless they have been recalled.
