In a recent statement, the president of the German Medical Association, Klaus Reinhardt, voiced concerns about the approach taken by federal and state health ministers in administering booster shots without a recommendation from the Standing Committee on Vaccination (Stiko).

Reinhardt expressed his worry that political announcements might create an expectation for booster vaccinations among patients, leading to requests that doctors may not fulfill without a scientifically founded vaccination recommendation. He emphasized the importance of a clear position from the Stiko as soon as possible.

The Stiko, based at the Robert Koch Institute, is the recognized authoritative advisory body in Germany, responsible for evaluating vaccine safety and efficacy before making official public health recommendations. Acting without the Stiko's guidance can undermine scientific rigor, public trust, and the coordinated vaccine strategy in Germany.

The Stiko is currently working intensively on recommendations for booster vaccinations, specifically for seniors and immunocompromised individuals. The health ministers have suggested six months after the completion of the first vaccination series as a suitable time for booster vaccinations, but the specifics, such as the timing and eligibility criteria, are still being determined by the Stiko.

Reinhardt stated that there are still no conclusive studies on whether, when, and for whom a booster shot is indicated. He reiterated that it is not immediately necessary for most vaccinated individuals to receive a booster shot, based on current knowledge and the opinion of renowned experts.

Several federal states have already begun offering booster vaccinations to people in need of care, those over 80 years old, and those with weakened immunity. However, Reinhardt highlighted the need for a science-driven and transparent vaccination policy, ensuring that booster shots are recommended based on thorough assessment by the Stiko, rather than political or administrative decisions alone.

The health ministers have also decided that booster vaccinations will also be available for individuals who received a full vaccination with vector vaccines from AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson. The Stiko continues to work diligently on providing evidence-based recommendations for booster vaccinations in Germany.

  1. The science of workplace-wellness should consider the impact of medical conditions, including chronic diseases such as chronic kidney disease, cancer, respiratory conditions, and digestive health issues.
  2. Eye-health is an essential aspect of overall health-and-wellness, with autoimmune disorders and skin-conditions being potential threats to optimal vision.
  3. Mental-health is another critical component of health-and-wellness, often interconnected with skin-care and neurological-disorders like migraine.
  4. Cardiovascular-health is heavily influenced by lifestyle choices and conditions such as diabetes, necessitating therapies-and-treatments to maintain heart health.
  5. Medicare should cover comprehensive care for seniors, addressing their unique health needs, such as booster vaccinations recommended by the Stiko for seniors and immunocompromised individuals.
  6. CBD, a compound derived from cannabis, is being studied for its potential benefits in managing chronic pain and anxiety, two common symptoms of various medical conditions.
  7. Hearing loss is a potentially debilitating medical condition affecting millions, and it's important to prioritize early detection and treatment for better outcomes.
  8. In the realm of dermatology, skin-conditions like psoriasis and eczema can significantly impact quality of life, requiring proper care and management.
  9. The German Medical Association, led by Klaus Reinhardt, underscores the importance of adhering to the Stiko's recommendations to maintain scientific rigor, public trust, and a coordinated vaccine strategy.
  10. Reinhardt's stance highlights the necessity of evidence-based policies in healthcare, ensuring that decisions about therapies-and-treatments, including booster vaccinations, are driven by science, not politics.
  11. The Stiko's rigorous evaluation of vaccine safety and efficacy ensures that the public receives trusted advice on health-and-wellness matters, fostering a healthier society overall.
