Menopause: Quite a Humorous Matter
The London Hippodrome recently hosted an extraordinary event, 'Menopause: It's a Right Laugh', organized by Menopause Mandate, a group of women dedicated to revolutionizing support and advice for women experiencing menopause and perimenopause.
The comedy night featured a lineup of renowned comedians, including Jo Brand, Jenny Eclair, Nina Conti, Thanyia Moore, Jen Brister, and Davina McCall. The comedians turned audience assumptions into their truths in a positive and inspiring way, making the event a unique and enlightening experience.
The event organizers, who usually work on brainstorming, storyboarding, and creating decks, found this event to be a refreshing departure. They aimed to raise awareness, break down barriers, and gather supporters for Menopause Mandate's MM40+ petition.
The petition is lobbying for the inclusion of menopause information in health checks offered to women over the age of 40. With approximately 16 million women over the age of 45 in the UK, all of whom will either currently be experiencing menopause or will in the next decade, this cause is of utmost importance.
The event was not just about entertainment, but also about educating and breaking taboos around menopause. The comedians at the comedy night educated the audience as they entertained, shedding light on the various symptoms and unique experiences associated with menopause.
The lineup was intentionally diverse to represent different menopause experiences from various ethnicities, ages, and communities. This diversity was a testament to Menopause Mandate's commitment to inclusivity and their belief that every woman's experience matters.
The event was a resounding success, attended by 350 celebrities, patrons, advocates, and supporters of Menopause Mandate. Mariella Frostrup, the chair of Menopause Mandate, was present, and the event achieved their greatest success by raising awareness about menopause issues for women over 40.
The event demonstrated the generosity and willingness of people to help in important causes. It was a night filled with laughter, education, and a shared commitment to breaking taboos and spreading awareness about menopause. The comedy night served as a powerful reminder that menopause is a normal part of life, and it's time to talk about it openly and honestly.
