Ministry of Water Resources in Kogi State Conducts Cascaded Training on the Managed Approach for Acute Malnutrition (MAM)

The Kogi State Ministry of Water Resources, under the guidance of the Advanced New Direction Administration, held a cascaded training on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) on Monday, 15th September 2025. The one-day training aimed to enhance service delivery and tackle malnutrition challenges in the State.

The training, conducted for the staff of the Ministry of Water Resources, was deemed highly effective and well-received by the participants. The Honourable Commissioner, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk, addressed the attendees and commended the current administration for its efforts to improve citizens' lives.

Engr. Peter Arome, the Director of Nutrition of the Ministry, provided an overview of the training and introduced the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) approach. The technical session, led by Mrs. Funmilayo Alapo from the Nutrition Department of Kogi State Ministry of Health, focused on definition, measurement, correction methods, outpatient program design, and the use of Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) for screening.

The commissioner stressed the need for continuous training across other departments of the Ministry to reinforce its importance. Mall. Abubakar Musa, the Director of Planning, Ministry of Finance and Budget, delivered a goodwill message and acknowledged the significance of the topic and the collective responsibility to implement the discussed initiatives.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the training's timeliness and delivery. The session concluded with a question and answer session, and the cascaded training on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition ended with an emphasis on ensuring that best practices are followed consistently. Mall. Abubakar Musa also extended gratitude to the donors for their support.

The training is a significant step towards addressing malnutrition in Kogi State, and it is hoped that the knowledge and skills acquired will be effectively applied to enhance the health and wellbeing of the citizens.
