In a significant move to address the lack of maternity care in underserved areas, OSF HealthCare has launched a new mobile unit, the OSF OnCall support van. This innovative initiative is aimed at providing comprehensive maternity care services to women in counties like La Salle, Bureau, and Putnam, where traditional care is often inaccessible or requires long travel distances.

The mobile pregnancy and postpartum clinic, equipped with a medical provider on board, offers a range of essential services. These include prenatal care, sonograms performed directly within the vehicle, lab work and lab draws for prenatal testing, blood pressure monitoring, vaccinations, depression screenings, and a medical assistant to support the care provider.

A partnership between OSF HealthCare and Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, funded by a $1.5 million grant, has made these services available free of charge for Medicaid patients enrolled in the OSF OnCall pregnancy and postpartum digital support program. Women can either self-enrol or be referred by providers to use the mobile unit services.

Interested individuals can access more information about pregnancy-postpartum support on the support van by clicking the provided link. The support van will serve counties such as La Salle, Bureau, and Putnam, among others, and it is not specified whether it offers its services to patients outside of these counties.

This mobile unit is a valuable addition to the healthcare landscape, bridging gaps in maternity care access and ensuring that expectant mothers receive essential prenatal and postpartum support close to home. The OSF OnCall support van is set to start its journey in providing vital healthcare services to women in Illinois' maternity care deserts.
