Model's cancer diagnosis led to bouts of depression for Bianca Balti.

In a heartfelt revelation, Italian model Bianca Balti has shared her experiences since being diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer last September. After a difficult winter that included cancer and chemotherapy, Balti travelled to Italy with her younger daughter Mia in June, hoping for a healing summer. However, Balti felt out of place and disappointed during her summer in Sardinia, comparing it unfavourably to a previous summer. In June, everything finally stopped, and Balti experienced depression, shutting down mentally and physically. Balti admitted that she had tried to be brave and move on after her cancer diagnosis, but had never truly understood what was happening inside her. She paused her Instagram account and took a break from social media since June 10th. Balti's partner, Alessandro Cutrera, encouraged her to seek help, and she resumed therapy with the oncological psychologist Dr. Marco Agati. Balti resumed using estrogen patches, which she had suspended months earlier. Balti's daughter Matilde turned 18, graduated, and moved to New York to start her modelling career in June. Despite the challenges, Balti is grateful for her two daughters, her partner, friends, and a home full of little kindnesses. Balti wants to say that post-cancer depression is real, legitimate, and not a moral failure. She feels that gratitude does not cancel out depression but makes it more complex, more silent, and sometimes embarrassing. Balti prefers to tell her story through a newsletter now. Balti has been in remission for months and has undergone surgery, chemotherapy, and a battle to return to life after her cancer diagnosis. Balti's resilience and courage in sharing her journey serve as an inspiration to many.
