Munich-based biotech startup Bioexotec clinches the city's business plan competition
In the heart of innovation, Munich, the Business Plan Competition 2025 has concluded with Bioexotec, Peak Quantum, and Versatile Robotics taking the top spots. These three startups, each with a distinct cutting-edge technology, showcased a promising future in healthcare, quantum computing, and robotics.
Leading the pack is Bioexotec, a medical technology startup that developed a non-invasive blood and saliva test for early-stage cancer detection. This test analyses the smallest particles in the body's circulation, offering a faster and less expensive alternative to traditional methods. Bioexotec, a spin-off from the TUM Klinikum rechts der Isar, aims to revolutionise cancer diagnostics with this innovative, accessible testing approach [1][3].
In second place, we find Peak Quantum, a spin-off from the Walther Meissner Institute. Peak Quantum is focused on creating highly robust quantum processing units (QPUs). Their novel QPU architecture promises ten times greater reliability than existing models, which could bring industrial applications of quantum computing significantly closer to reality [1].
Completing the podium is Versatile Robotics, a robotics startup spun off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR). This startup specialises in intelligent control software for robots, enabling them to perform complex and sensitive tasks in areas like logistics, manufacturing, and human-robot collaboration. Their focus is on enhancing robotic dexterity and adaptability through advanced software rather than hardware alone [1].
All three startups share a strong connection to scientific research institutions and embody deep tech innovation, combining technical advances with clear business visions for market impact [1]. As they continue to mature their technologies, attract investments, and scale towards commercial applications, their future developments will be closely watched.
The Munich Business Plan Competition 2025, endowed with €48,500, consisted of three phases and saw a total of 241 startups from Munich and Southern Bavaria participate, with many teams coming directly from the scientific environment [2]. Other notable finalists include Legalian, focusing on digital anti-money laundering; Agentix, offering AI automation without programming knowledge; Linque, developing photonic chips; and Onyx, offering simulation software for drug development.
Post-competition, Baystartup continues to support the teams, offering coaching and access to investors [4]. The success of these startups underscores the growing interest among researchers in founding companies and the strong focus on Deeptech and hardware solutions in the competition [5]. With these pioneering startups leading the way, the future of innovation in Munich and beyond looks bright.
