Recently, the mother who lost her child to an alligator reportedly gave birth to a newborn with cocaine in her system, according to prosecutors.

Newborn tested positive for cocaine, according to authorities, soon after the birth of a child whose older sibling was tragically taken by an alligator.

In a shocking turn of events, Hilda Vasquez, a mother from New Orleans East, has been arrested on charges of negligent homicide and second-degree cruelty to juveniles. The charges are related to the death of her 12-year-old son, Bryan Vasquez, who was killed by an alligator in August.

Bryan tragically met his end in New Orleans East, where he wandered out of his home unsupervised. The location of the incident has been confirmed by the Orleans Parish Coroner's office, who determined the death to be an alligator attack and drowning.

The case is now being handled by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office. It was revealed in court that Hilda Vasquez and her newborn both tested positive for cocaine in July, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

This is not the first time Hilda Vasquez has come into contact with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). She had two past cases open against her in connection with alleged child abuse and lack of supervision. In fact, one week prior to Bryan's death, Vasquez was ordered to stay away from her three living children.

The charges for the two ongoing DCFS cases have not been specified. However, it's important to note that two additional DCFS cases remain open: one for Bryan's death and the other for her newborn having cocaine in its system.

It's also worth mentioning that Vasquez has a prior conviction for cruelty to juveniles, which she received in 2014. Prosecutors argue that she poses a danger to the community, leading to her being ordered to be held without bond.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of child supervision and the consequences that can arise from neglect. As the case unfolds, we will continue to monitor developments and provide updates.
