DNP Decides Against Renewing Contract of Young Marine Conservationist Siranudh "Psi" Scott, Whose Tenure Concludes in September.

No Agreement Signed for Siranudh

Fresh Take:

Looks like marine conservationist Siranudh "Psi" Scott is stepping away from his role at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation (DNP) later this year. The DNP chief, Attapol Charoenchansa, spilled the tea on the situation, stating that a combination of factors led to Psi's departure.

While Psi's commitment to marine conservation was initially appreciated, a series of incidents raised concerns. He's been accused of displaying inappropriate behavior, even ignoring multiple warnings, as well as feuding with DNP staff. According to Charoenchansa, there were also whispers of Psi using departmental resources for personal gain and engaging in unbecoming gaffes of authority.

All this chaos has created a working environment that's almost unbearable. "Anyone who refuses to learn from their mistakes and make amends must step aside," noted Charoenchansa.

Psiorld, Psi's advisory role with the DNP, will reach its conclusion in September. However, there's a possibility of future collaborations, but it would be in a different setting, as Charoenchansa explained.

Insight:

Psi's termination from the DNP was chiefly due to repeated inappropriate conduct and conflicts over his advocacy methods, despite his significant conservation contributions. He faced issues such as behavioral disputes, public confrontations, and advocacy approach clashes, which ultimately led to his dismissal. Psi's confrontational style and social media campaigns were seen as incompatible with institutional protocols, creating a rift between grassroots activism and bureaucratic governance in environmental conservation.
