Person diagnosed with cancer embarks on 588-mile walk after raising £100k for charity

Paul Dennington, a man on a mission, is embarking on a 588-mile walking challenge called "March Through Life". This epic journey, spanning 36 days, will see him travel from North Shields to Hempstead Valley near Gillingham, with the aim of raising funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.

Since his terminal prostate cancer diagnosis in February 2021, Dennington has raised over £100,000 for the organisation. This latest challenge is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the cause, serving as a physically challenging, personally meaningful fundraising effort.

The walk will take Dennington through key life landmarks, including the resting places of his late parents. The opening day of the challenge will be particularly significant, with visits to his first house, his former infant and junior school, and St James' Park, home to his boyhood football club, Newcastle United.

Dennington emphasises the importance of early prostate cancer detection, stating that he was diagnosed too late to be cured despite not showing obvious symptoms. Caught early, prostate cancer is very treatable, but Dennington is one of the approximately 10,000 men each year who are diagnosed too late to be cured and did not exhibit obvious symptoms.

The challenge targets a fundraising goal of £30,000. Donations can be made via the JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/team/paul-dennington-march-through-life-team-page.

Dennington has already raised more than £16,000 before the challenge starts. Awareness talks will be given during the walk, driving testing and increasing awareness of the risks associated with prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer UK's chief executive, Laura Kerby, has expressed gratitude for Dennington's support and efforts in raising funds and awareness for the organisation. She said, "Paul's determination and commitment to raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer is truly inspiring. We are incredibly grateful for his efforts and the difference he is making to the lives of those affected by this disease."

Dennington's "March Through Life" is not just a walk; it's a testament to the power of determination, the importance of early detection, and the impact one person can have in the fight against prostate cancer. Join Paul Dennington on his journey and make a difference today.
