In Paderborn, Germany, the annual cross-border traffic safety campaign "sicher.mobil.leben" emphasized children's safety and enforcement against traffic violations. The Paderborn police conducted reinforced traffic controls throughout the district, especially at schools, kindergartens, and on the way there, controlling 24 locations during the morning hours at the start of school and kindergarten.

The motto for this year was "Children in sight", focusing on the dangers for children in road traffic and the sensitization of road users. During the traffic safety action, the deployment forces detected a total of 112 violations, including 88 speeding violations.

A care service vehicle was measured at 70 km/h instead of the permitted 30 km/h at a Hövelhofer school, resulting in a one-month driving ban. An Opel driver who was traveling at 66 km/h at the same location can also expect a driving ban. Nine times, vehicle drivers or passengers were not wearing seat belts, and three times, cyclists or car drivers used their phones while driving.

Three violations by or against cyclists were recorded, and nine other offenses were logged. The traffic safety consultation of the Paderborn police was also involved in the traffic safety action and held six events.

Similar traffic safety events across Germany often involve cooperation between police, local authorities, and community groups, aiming to reduce accidents and promote safer mobility. These actions may include safety checks, educational programs in schools, and targeted enforcement against common violations like speeding, mobile phone use, and improper use of protective gear.

For Paderborn and the surrounding Kreis Paderborn, other related traffic safety initiatives include campaigns like "Scoot Smart", targeting safe e-scooter use, showing the broader commitment to road safety education and enforcement in the area.

  1. To promote a healthier lifestyle, the Paderborn police could organize fitness-and-exercise events as part of their traffic safety initiatives, such as bike tours or pedestrian-only zones, encouraging road users to engage in physical activities and reduce traffic congestion.
  2. In addition to enforcing traffic regulations, the police in Paderborn could collaborate with local health-and-wellness organizations to promote science-based road safety education, providing reliable information about the impact of traffic violations on health and well-being, and the benefits of adhering to safety guidelines.
