Railway toilets relocated to the northern side
In a bid to enhance the user experience on the North Rhine-Westphalia cycle route, the city of Wuppertal has announced the introduction of new public toilets. These new facilities, known as dry towers, will be located at selected rest stops and popular cycling points over the next three months.
The idea for this project originated from the Wuppertal movement, which provided valuable insights about the trail's usage. Recognising the need for public restrooms along the route, the city decided to take action. Previously, the cycle route lacked such amenities, which could have been a deterrent for some potential users.
The locations of the new toilets have been carefully chosen to provide wide coverage along the trail and ensure they are easily findable, particularly at bus stops. The experiences of local residents with wild urination spots were also taken into account during the selection process.
Users are invited to participate in a survey about the new offer at formulare.wuppertal.de. Surveys conducted at the temporary toilets, which were operated during the summer season, were completed over 90 times. Many valuable insights and wishes were revealed from these surveys, which will help shape the future of public toilets in Wuppertal.
All trail users are encouraged to use and evaluate the new toilets, and to report any vandalism or contamination. General feedback on the topic of toilets can be provided via email at [email protected].
Deputy Mayor Gunnar Ohrndorf has expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in the test project. The city's project manager, Jana Verhuelsdonk, is overseeing the implementation of an overall concept for public toilets, including the recent relocation of the toilets on the North Rhine-Westphalia cycle route.
A second workshop with district representatives and local businesses is planned towards the end of the year to evaluate the test phase and develop recommendations for the toilet concept. More information about the topic can be found online at www.wuppertal.de/toiletten.
The introduction of these new public toilets is a significant step towards making the North Rhine-Westphalia cycle route more accessible and enjoyable for all users. The city of Wuppertal looks forward to receiving feedback and continuing to improve the facilities for the benefit of its residents and visitors alike.
