Rising apprehension of home-based aggression over the forthcoming Christmas season

As the Christmas holidays approach, concerns about an increase in domestic violence are on the rise. Ulle Schauws, spokeswoman for women's policy of the Green parliamentary group, has issued a warning, urging the federal government to take immediate action.

Schauws has called for a crisis round and a crisis team for women's protection, citing the already strained capacity of women's shelters. According to her, some affected individuals have already been turned away due to a lack of testing capacity.

The second shutdown of the pandemic is expected to be as challenging as the first, and Schauws fears that the situation may worsen during the Christmas season. She has criticised the federal government for not managing the crisis effectively, particularly the role of the federal women's minister.

Giffey, the Federal Family Minister, has also voiced her concerns about an increase in violence during Christmas. She has promoted the help hotline of her ministry for addressing such issues, but Schauws has pointed out that no nationwide concept to combat the danger during the crisis has been presented by Giffey.

Schauws has suggested practical measures such as rapid tests in women's shelters to help alleviate the strain on resources. However, as of now, there is no publicly available information or official update on a national strategy specifically addressing the increase in domestic violence during the Christmas holidays as demanded by Schauws.

The focus remains on broader issues of women's policy and social violence, but no concrete national strategy or governmental action related directly to this specific demand has been reported. Schauws' appeal to the federal government has not yet received a response.

As the holiday season approaches, it is crucial for the federal government to address these concerns and take necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals, particularly women who may be at risk of domestic violence.
