Saxony's Low Vaccination Rates: Only 5 Pharmacies Join 'Long Night' Despite Minister's Call
Saxony's vaccination rates for flu and COVID-19 remain low, with pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and local pharmacies participating at a minimal level. The reasons behind this are unclear, but staff shortages and vacation time have been cited as factors.
The Saxon Chamber of Pharmacists has confirmed that only five pharmacies across the region are taking part in the 'Long Night of Vaccinations' on Wednesday. This low participation comes despite Health Minister Petra Köpping's call for increased vaccinations at the start of the flu season. The reasons for this are not clear, but the chamber has mentioned vacation time and staff shortages as contributing factors.
Saxony currently has the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rate among people aged 60 and over, with only 9%. For flu vaccinations, Saxony ranks fifth with a rate of 45.8%, falling short of the RKI's recommended rate of 75%. Many people prefer to get vaccinated by their GP, and vaccination in pharmacies is still a new concept that needs to be established.
The low participation of pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and local pharmacies in vaccination campaigns is a concern, especially with Saxony's low COVID-19 and flu vaccination rates. Addressing staff shortages and vacation time, as well as educating the public about the convenience and safety of pharmacy vaccinations, could help increase participation and boost vaccination rates.
