Shymkent resident taken into custody for attempting to sexually assault an elderly individual
In the city of Shymkent, a local resident, aged 35, has been detained by police on suspicion of assaulting a pensioner and committing robbery. The suspect, identified as Yernar Zhiembay, was wanted for two days before his arrest.
According to reports, Zhiembay is accused of attacking a Russian citizen biker at a gas station in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl Region in April 2025. The attacker, armed with a knife, stabbed the victim twice, but the wounds were non-penetrating. Eyewitnesses managed to subdue the attacker, and the victim fled the scene.
During the trial, Zhiembay partially admitted guilt but denied full responsibility, citing his role as a father. The court sentenced him to 11 years and 3 months in prison, which is less than the prosecutor’s requested 15 years. He was also ordered to pay moral and material damages. However, it is important to note that as of the latest reports, the sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
Interestingly, Zhiembay's criminal history does not indicate any prior convictions or records of crimes. The court appears to have considered his personal circumstances in handing down the sentence.
In a separate incident, also in Shymkent, the MVD (Ministry of Internal Affairs) reported an assault on a pensioner. According to CCTV footage, the perpetrator was captured strangling an elderly woman in an elevator. The victim, who is a pensioner, was initially unconscious after the attack. However, it was later revealed that the attacker attempted to rape the victim, although the attempt was interrupted. The suspect is also alleged to have stolen 8,000 tenge from the pensioner's pocket.
An investigation has been launched for robbery under Article 191, Part 2 and for attempted rape under Article 120, Part 1 of the Criminal Code. The suspect now faces charges for both assault and robbery.
The information about these incidents was relayed by a correspondent from Almaty.tv. It is important to note that the attack in Delhi involving a different accused and a different official is unrelated to the Shymkent cases.
In the aftermath of the assault, the victim refused hospitalization after receiving initial medical aid. No further details about the assault or the suspect's motives have been disclosed at this time.
