Skin care brand Lion Pose, backed by Mindy Kaling, makes its Sephora debut
Let's Chill with Lion Pose: The Inclusive, Science-Backed Skincare Brand
Hey there! Breaking news, beauty junkies! Lion Pose, the long-anticipated DTC skincare brand, has finally dropped its first product, exclusively at Sephora. This exciting launch is backed by the one and only Mindy Kaling and it's all about inclusivity and science-led formulations to shake up your skincare game.
Lion Pose officially hit the digital shelves on Monday for Sephora app users with a rollout to the beauty retailer's website on Tuesday. You can expect to see it at select Sephora stores starting August 28, according to a company press release.
But the story behind Lion Pose isn't just about the product—it's about the passion that drives the iconic co-founders, Madhu Punjabi and Nisha Phatak. These BIPOC Silicon Valley software alums and Harvard MBA graduates have experienced the struggle of finding skincare solutions that work for all skin tones.
Their flagship product, Unspotted 4X Acid Jelly Night Serum, is engineered specifically to tackle hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and scarring on every melanin-rich skin tone. To develop this powerhouse product, Lion Pose's team enlisted the assistance of Harvard-trained dermatologists Dr. Laura Scott and Dr. Tia Paul, who specialize in diverse skin and are active members of the Skin of Color Society.
Madhu Punjabi shares her personal journey, confessing, "I have embarrassingly textured skin. I couldn't find anyone who created products that worked on my skin tone and texture." After a series of IVs, lasers, chemical peels, fillers, subcision (a surgical procedure), and countless dermatologist appointments, Madhu realized that most products simply don't work for people of different skin tones and types because they aren't tested on a full spectrum of skins.
It took Lion Pose's innovators two years to perfect their first product, and they uncovered a disheartening truth along the way. Minorities are often underrepresented in clinical trials for skincare treatments. They also acknowledge the tremendous support and assistance they received from Sephora in getting their product to market.
Lion Pose was handpicked for Sephora's Accelerate program, which boasts a prestigious roster of participating brands such as Moodeaux, Brown Girl Jane, Range Beauty, Glosshood, Seaspire Skincare, Oui the People, and Of Other Worlds.
In addition to Kaling, Lion Pose secured a $3 million investment from Ignite XL, Precursor Ventures, Rob Lowe's LH Capital, Howard Klein, L. founder Talia Frenkel, and the former-CEO of Guthy Renker (Proactiv's parent company) Ben VandeBunt.
Kaling says, "I found an unbeatable product that was backed by a vision I have always believed in," adding, "representation and inclusion are just good business." So dive into the world of Lion Pose and let your skin glow with confidence!
