Smoking prohibited on French beaches, public parks, and schools as of July 1st
France Implements Nationwide Smoking Ban Start July 1
Starting from July 1, smoking will be prohibited in several public spaces across France, including beaches, parks, school grounds, bus stops, sports venues, and areas near schools. Health Minister Catherine Vautrin announced this ban during an interview with "Ouest France."
Anyone found violating this new smoking ban will be fined 135 euros. Local police will be responsible for enforcing the regulation.
The Minister stated, "Our goal is to ensure that the children born in 2025 will form the first smoke-free generation." The purpose of this nationwide ban is part of France's National Anti-Tobacco Programme for 2023–2027, aiming to create a tobacco-free generation by 2032.
Outdoor areas of cafes and e-cigarettes are currently exempt from the ban. However, the government is considering additional restrictions on vaping products in the future.
The ban will help reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and protect children in particular.Sources: ntv.de, dpa
