On Sundays, the prison's grounds come alive with activity. Visitors gather, and prisoners, wearing matching khakis and boots, can be seen interacting with their loved ones. The atmosphere is reminiscent of families enjoying a day at the park.
The prisoners at Federal Prison Camp Bryan participate in a variety of activities aimed at rehabilitation and skill-building. One such program is the work release program, which trains inmates to become certified nursing assistants, managed by an external education company, Southern Careers Institute.
Another noteworthy initiative is the Canine Companions organisation's service-dog training program. Currently, seven puppies are being cared for by 15 inmate handlers, who groom, exercise, socialise, and teach the dogs their initial service tasks over a period of 8 weeks to 17 months.
