Summer Sports Initiative "Sport in the Park Summer" commences in the warmer season in Dusseldorf

The city of Düsseldorf is gearing up for the return of its popular health and fitness program, 'Sports in the Park', which will commence on May 3rd at Rheinpark. This year, the program has seen an expansion, offering a wider variety of courses and new locations across the city.

The summer season of 'Sports in the Park' runs until October 5th and will be held at 31 locations throughout Düsseldorf. New venues include Garath - Spielplatz am Mehrgenerationenhaus Hell-Ga, Derendorf - Frankenplatz, Oberbilk - WGZ Bank-Park, Wittlaer - Bolzplatz am Friederike-Fliedner-Weg, Oberkassel - Belsenpark, and Hamm - Green space at Nikolaus-Faber-Platz.

The program, coordinated by the city, boasts a partnership with several sponsors and partners, including BürgerStiftung Düsseldorf, Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf, Stadtwerke Düsseldorf, Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Region Düsseldorf e.V., #BEACTIVE, DRK Kreisverband Düsseldorf e.V., St. Seb. Schützenbruderschaft Düsseldorf-Hamm e.V., SOS-Kinderdorf Düsseldorf e.V., Stadtsportbund Düsseldorf e.V., Wir sind IN FORM, and zentrum plus.

With over 42 courses per week, participants can choose from a diverse range of activities such as self-defense, running training + stabilization, back fitness + mobility, several new yoga styles like back yoga, yoga + flexibility, and yoga + meditation. Popular courses such as Zumba, functional training, Qi Gong, intensive fitness training, and yoga fitness are also included in the summer season program.

All offers are free for participants and no registration is required - simply come and join in. Participants should bring a towel, water, and an iso or sports mat, depending on the activity. The training sessions last about an hour and take place in all weather conditions, including during school holidays and public holidays.

Last year, approximately 35,000 people participated in the summer sports offerings of 'Sports in the Park', and the Sports Department has increased the number of courses for this year, expecting more participation.
