Texas A&M's canine mascot, Reveille X, undergoes eye removal due to a glaucoma diagnosis.
In a heartwarming update from Texas A&M University, the school's much-loved border collie mascot, Reveille X, has made a successful recovery following an eye surgery. The operation was performed due to a diagnosis of glaucoma and associated abnormal tissue, with the procedure carried out out of an abundance of caution.
Reveille X, affectionately known as the "First Lady of Aggieland," became the latest iteration of Texas A&M's mascot in 2021. She is the tenth dog to hold the prestigious title, following in the footsteps of her predecessors who have been part of the university's rich history since 1931.
The original Reveille was an injured dog, found and brought to campus by a group of cadets. Her barking during morning reveille earned her the name that she still bears today. Since then, the Reveille mascot has been a beloved symbol of Texas A&M, with Reveille X continuing this tradition in her own unique way.
The surgery, announced by university president Mark A Welsh III on the school's website, was a success. Reveille X has since been discharged and is resting comfortably. She will take a brief hiatus from public engagements to focus on her recovery, but is expected to return to her favourite activities this fall.
These activities include cruising across campus in the golf cart named "Rev Force One," attending classes, cheering on the Aggies, and keeping campus squirrels in line. Rev Force One, a custom-built golf cart, is used to transport Reveille X around the university, ensuring she is always a visible and beloved presence.
The university community is overjoyed at the news of Reveille X's recovery. Her spirit and energy are a source of inspiration for students, staff, and alumni alike. As she recovers, the Aggie family looks forward to welcoming Reveille X back to her familiar role as the heart and soul of Texas A&M University.
