Thailand's XFG Covid-19 Variant Cases Rise, Causing Global Concern
Thailand is witnessing a rise in Covid-19 variant XFG, also known as Stratus, which now constitutes 5.4% of all strains found in the country between April and September. This variant is causing concern globally due to its increasing case numbers.
As of July 14, Thailand had reported 589,352 Covid-19 cases and 239 fatalities. The XFG variant, first detected in the country this year, has accounted for 33 cases so far. Most of these cases are concentrated in Bangkok, the country's capital.
Covid-19 symptoms are typically mild, including fever, coughing, sore throat, runny noses, and headaches. Fortunately, no Covid-19 patients in Thailand have required hospital admission. However, anyone experiencing irregular Covid-19 symptoms should seek immediate medical diagnosis and treatment.
The global spread of Covid-19 is a cause for concern. As of September 2024, Canada has reported cases of the variant outside Thailand, with the first detection occurring in late January 2025. Covid-19 is now the dominant strain worldwide.
To protect against Covid-19 and its variants like XFG, health authorities urge the public to maintain frequent hand washing and avoid crowded places. As Covid-19 case numbers rise globally, vigilance and adherence to safety measures are crucial.
