Traffic Incident on Frankfurt's Motorway 3: Vehicle Fire Results in Extensive Emergency Response

On July 15, 2025, at around 12:30 PM, a significant incident occurred on the A3 motorway near Frankfurt. A burning pickup truck caused a large deployment of police and firefighters, leading to the closure of the motorway and the rerouting of traffic.

According to Police Headquarters Frankfurt am Main, the driver safely exited the burning truck below the Ost roll bridge. Unfortunately, the truck's gas tank detonated, causing the truck to fully catch fire. The nearby airport was informed about the restricted visibility due to the smoke, and the fire resulted in the closure of the A3 motorway.

The full closure in the direction of Würzburg was lifted after about 40 minutes, but the direction towards Cologne remained closed for another hour until at least the left lane was reopened. The bridge structure was re-opened for use by aircraft after inspection.

An expert was called in to assess the damage to the road and tunnel, and the total damage cannot yet be quantified. The cause of the fire is now being investigated by the criminal police, and the name of the police officer conducting the investigation is not mentioned in the available information.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. However, the fire did cause significant damage to the road surface and the tunnel ceiling, resulting in the A3 motorway remaining closed for several hours.
