Tulsa County: Flu and COVID-19 Precautions Urged This Holiday Season

Tulsa County residents are urged to take precautions against both flu and COVID-19 this holiday season. The Tulsa County Health Department has reported an increase in influenza A, with 36 residents hospitalized so far this season. Dr. Dart advises caution to prevent the spread of both illnesses.

The wastewater surveillance program in Tulsa County has detected a rise in influenza A over the past five weeks. Although national influenza activity remains low, it is increasing, as per the CDC. Both flu and COVID-19 are contagious respiratory illnesses with similar symptoms, requiring testing for confirmation.

To protect public health, masks are mandatory, and clients will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival at health centers. Dr. Dart urges residents to be cautious during holidays to prevent the spread of both viruses. The CDC recommends staying home for at least 24 hours after a flu fever subsides, except for medical care or other necessities.
