Two individuals met their demise in a small garden locale, situated in Munich, during a plant incident.
In a tragic incident, a suspected gas accident occurred on Sunday, August 10, at an allotment garden in northern Munich. The cause of the accident was a carbon monoxide leak from a generator in the basement of a hut.
The generator, believed to be the source of the carbon monoxide emission, was operating during a private party. Two men, aged 41 and 50, both residents of Munich, were found lying on the floor in the basement when illness was noticed by other party guests. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both men later succumbed to the poisoning.
The 41-year-old was rescued from the basement by firefighters, while the 50-year-old was brought outside by the party guests themselves. The 41-year-old died in the hospital on the same day, and the 50-year-old passed away on Sunday.
Four other individuals, two 54-year-olds resident in Munich, and a 49-year-old and a 43-year-old resident in the Munich district, each suffered a mild intoxication and were hospitalized for treatment. The 43-year-old, the 49-year-old, and one of the 54-year-olds were taken to the hospital on August 10. The other 54-year-old was released after an on-site medical examination.
Around 25 people had to be cared for by the crisis intervention team, who were on-site to support relatives and affected individuals. The police suspect carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of the accident and are currently investigating the exact cause of the leak. The criminal police have taken over further investigations.
It is important to note that at no point was the population at large at risk. The police and emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, with a rescue helicopter deployed during the operation. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of carbon monoxide, a highly toxic gas that is odorless.
