Undercover operation uncovers clandestine liquor manufacturing facility in Kibra, orchestrated by anti-substance abuse authorities.

In a significant move to combat alcohol and drug abuse in Kenya, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), under the leadership of CEO Anthony Omerikwa, spearheaded a multi-agency raid in Kibra, Sarangombe early Thursday morning.

The operation, which took place at 2 a.m., was a response to intelligence about a riverbank hideout where illicit brew distilleries were believed to be operating. The raid resulted in the dismantling of two such distilleries and the seizure of over 100 drums of kangara, a raw ingredient for illicit liquor.

During the operation, more than 30 distillation drums were found in operation. The equipment and contents were destroyed on site to prevent their reuse. The seizure and destruction mark a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb illicit alcohol in Nairobi County and across Kenya.

Nacada will continue to work with law enforcement and communities to eliminate such enterprises. Omerikwa stated that the operation sends a strong message against those profiting from poisoning communities.

Illicit brews have been linked to family destruction, crime, and preventable deaths. The crackdown on such activities is part of a 100 Days Rapid Results Initiative ordered by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. This operation is a demonstration of the government's resolve to protect Kenyans and reclaim communities from substance abuse.

The operation in Kibra, Sarangombe was a significant step forward in the multi-agency strategy coordinated across the country to disrupt supply chains of illicit alcohol and drugs. The government's commitment to this cause remains unwavering, and the public can expect continued efforts to combat alcohol and drug abuse in the coming days.
